I’m a proud native Detroiter who is just as proud to call New York my second home. I grew up the youngest of two in a house that was almost always filled with music. Without fail, this music was accompanied by my father’s rich and flawless tenor and resulted in me singing from the moment I could talk. Having survived the many creative imaginings of my older brother (he put me in the dryer and turned it on) as well as my own active imagination (I once shaved off all my eyebrows while pretending to do a commercial in the bathtub) I’ve always known that I wanted a life on stage. Although I practically grew up backstage of the Hilberry and Bonstelle theatres at Wayne State University where my mother was getting her BFA, it never occurred to me to become an actor. I wanted to sing.
During the summer break of my junior year in college, I wrote three songs, recorded a demo and was picked up by a record label. I went on to write and record several songs with KMS Records, one of which, “Now Is The Time”, became a hit in the UK.
One European tour and several years later, I moved to New York to study at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I was a singer who was hoping to become an actor. However, on the first day of my first acting class, I came to the realization that all my life I had been an actor who could sing. After completing the conservatory program at the Academy, I was invited to the Academy’s Repertory Company.
Since that time, I have had the privilege to work often and to do this work with some amazing theatre companies and alongside some incredibly talented people. I’m a member of the critically acclaimed Amoralists Theatre Company, and a past member of The Flea Theatre's resident acting company, The Bats. I have had the opportunity to originate countless roles in plays and musicals and tour both at home and abroad as an actor and singer. In 2011, I had the wonderful opportunity to originate the role of Roberta in the workshop presentation of SISTAS: The Musical! at the Midtown International Theatre Festival. Following a sold out run in the festival, SISTAS transferred to an Off Broadway house and is now in its 3rd year at St. Luke’s Theatre! MENTAL ISSUES, a web series I’m producing and starring, is currently streaming online. Meanwhile, I’m continuing to develop my one woman show, Grown Folks Are Talking, which will have its New York run…well...as soon as I’m convinced it’s brilliant.
